According to ancient Hindu mythology, this is the site where Lord Parshuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, washed away his sin after fulfilling a grievous command — beheading his own mother at the order of his father, Rishi Jamadagni.
Overwhelmed by remorse, Lord Parshuram came to this place and bathed in the Lohit River, where his axe, tainted with sin, detached itself and fell away — symbolizing forgiveness and purification.
